After the death of the CEO of Narawa company ltd, some of the workers of the company are now using the company as a front guard to support Galamsey operators, Chinese and Indians, and other West African immigrants in the destruction of the Braim and Nsuapim rivers in Ghana.

Currently, the company has documentation and tax issues with the government. However, it still manages to operate, hidden in its old office in a small village called Nsuapemso in the eastern part of Ghana, where it takes money from galamsey operators to cover its illegal mining activities in the country.

The Human Rights and Child Protection unit undertook a 9-month investigation within the Akyim areas to determine the cause of the Braim river pollution and contamination, as well as the high drop-out of children from school within the Osino, Nsuapemso, and Nsutem areas.

During the investigation, some Narawa company staff claimed to be backed by Osino chief, Osino queen mother, the husband of the DCE (NDC Chairman in the area), the late Assemblyman of Nsutem and Nsuapemso, and other big men in the country.

A few months ago, the royals of Nsuapemso Town called Narawa to move out of their land and help the community stay away from illegal mining operations, but the mining company sent the royals to the Osino Traditional court to seek higher traditional assistance from the Osino Palace.

Surprisingly, the Queen mother and Chief of Osino downplay the rights of the Nsuapemso royals and warn the Nsuapemso royals not to demonstrate or ever say no to Narawa’s illegal operations since they get Royalties from the illegal operations in Nsuapemso facilitated by Narawa.

A member of the Nsuapemso Royals, who is a member of the coalition against irresponsible mining and Galamsey in Ghana disagreed with the judgment of Osino chief and elders and kept advising the people to stay away from the destruction of the Braim River and follow the right process in governments present cooperative and responsible mining system, which the village of nsuapemso has registered and is waiting for government assistance to launch.

Presently, the Narawa staff are seriously mining the land of Nsuapemso and inside the Brim River with their galamsey operators, claiming they are backed by Chiefs and Police people in the country, so no organization or individual can stop them.

The World Health Organization has reported several times how illegal and irresponsible mining is killing humans, and as a human rights and child protection organization, we would like to call on the president of Ghana to act fast on these Narawa illegal operations in Nsuapemso to save lives.
